Giving back to the community is part of who we are.
TMT Development team members recently volunteered at the Portland East House, part of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington.
East House is adjacent to Randall Children’s Hospital and is one of three Ronald McDonald Houses in Oregon, including Portland South Waterfront and Bend. Later this year, a fourth Oregon location is scheduled to welcome families at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart in Springfield.
We’d like to thank Community Programs Coordinator Kara Klepinger for welcoming us with a tour and an overview of the organization. What wonderful work they do providing a “home away from home” for the families of children receiving medical care.
We were especially moved by the “Tree of Hope” in the lobby, holding scribbled wishes from children and families who’ve come through the house. Some wishes were sweet and lighthearted, while others were heartbreaking; a poignant testimony to the importance of the services Ronald McDonald House provides.
After the tour, we rolled up our sleeves to deep clean the most-used common areas in the house: the kitchen, dining room, play room and craft room. We swept, mopped, scrubbed and sanitized until the space was sparkling clean.
It was time well spent, lending a hand to a special place that provides so much comfort and support for families when they need it most. We look forward to helping out again soon.
