The 9-story Studio Building was built in 1926 and featured 128 rehearsal studios for musicians and actors. The Guild Theatre next door was the original performance space for aspiring stars who practiced at the Studio. Today, the ground floor features a local dining favorite, Pastini, with eight floors of office space above.

The Guild Theatre was built in 1927 and was once the last single-screen movie theater in downtown Portland. Adjacent to TMT’s Studio Building, the Guild was originally designed as a 450-seat recital hall for musicians renting studio space next door. Summer 2019 marks the Guild’s latest reinvention, with Kinokuniya Bookstore leasing all 5,000 square feet of this piece of Portland history. It is the company’s 13th store in the U.S. and 32nd overseas. Kinokuniya was also founded in 1927, adding a touch of historic kismet to this prime downtown spot just steps from Director Park, restaurants and retail.
